How to calculate winning percentage
Winning percentage shows how often a team or player wins. By default, this calculator counts each draw as half a win:
Winning % = (Wins + ½ × Draws) ÷ (Wins + Draws + Losses) × 100
Example
A team with 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses has played 10 games. The 2 draws count as 1 win, so the winning percentage is (6 + 1) ÷ 10 × 100 = 70%.
If there are no draws
Divide wins by total games. For example, 12 wins and 8 losses is 12 ÷ 20 = 60%.
Other ways to count draws
Sports and leagues do not all treat draws the same way. Use the menu on the calculator to switch method:
- Draw = ½ win: (Wins + ½ × Draws) ÷ games played. The general convention, and the one the NFL has used since 1972.
- Draw = not a win: Wins ÷ games played. Common for a football manager's win rate.
- Ignore draws: Wins ÷ (Wins + Losses). The method the NFL used before 1972.
- League points (3-1-0): points ÷ (3 × games played), which is the points won as a share of the maximum possible in a table that gives 3 for a win and 1 for a draw.
